Premarital Counseling
Congratulations on this exciting step in your relationship!
This is a time filled with love, joy, and anticipation. At the same time, this season can also bring stress and uncertainty. A mixed bag of emotions as you navigate this transition is normal.
Whether the big day is next month or next year, I’ll help you navigate this transition with a new understanding of one another and confidence in your next steps utilizing both Prepare Enrich and The Gottman Method.
What is Prepare Enrich Premarital Counseling?
Prepare/Enrich for premarital counseling is one of the most highly researched assessment tools for premarital couples counseling and renowned as the global standard for all premarital therapies.
Prepare/Enrich helps premarital couples gain deeper understanding of their relational dynamics, personality, stress, strengths, and areas for growth.
This evidence-based assessment tool and our sessions together enhance your relationship by:
Improving your communication style.
Identifying your strength and growth areas.
Gaining skills to manage and resolve conflict.
Understanding personality differences.
Strengthening your overall bond.
Addressing topics such as finances, sexual intimacy, and family planning.
What can we expect?
Assessment: Each partner will complete an online assessment that will analyze various aspects of your relationship. The assessment is $35 total for the couple. These areas measured include communication, conflict resolution, financial management, family of origin, and sexual intimacy.
Personalized Results: Based on your responses, you will receive a detailed report from me highlighting your relationship’s strength and growth areas that we will build upon and tackle in sessions. I will also provide you with a free workbook that you and your partner will complete throughout the premarital process.
Sessions: The premarital process lasts 6-8 sessions (though some couples may choose to continue with me in traditional couples therapy), meeting on a weekly or biweekly cadence. In these sessions we will be targeting the strength and growth areas of your relationship highlighted in the assessment as well as any other concerns you are having.
Skill Building: Through couples workbook you’ll be processing key topic with your partner at home and practicing communication skills in session.
Non-Religious, Professional and Evidenced-Based Premarital Counseling
There is a common misconception that premarital counseling is for religious couples or those affiliated with a church. As a professional Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, my approach is rooted in solid and evidenced-based practices that is open to all couples.
My training in Prepare/Enrich, The Gottman Method, and various other forms of couples therapies enable me to provide you with skills proven to enhance your relationship as you take this next step.
In choosing a licensed therapist for premarital counseling, you not only gain valuable insights into your relationship but should the need arise for couples therapy in the future, you've already cultivated a strong relationship with a therapist who clinically understands you and your relationship.
